Admission into IMA
Admission into the Illinois Investment Management Academy (IMA) is open exclusively to freshmen in the Finance Academy. Recruitment is conducted each academic year during both the fall and spring semesters.
The recruitment process includes participation in the IMA Bootcamp, coffee chats, a technical test, and multiple rounds of invite-only interviews. Selected candidates will complete onboarding requirements prior to beginning full participation in the program in the following academic term.
To be considered for the Investment Management Academy recruitment process, applicants must complete the Interest and Bootcamp Sign-Up Form.
Technical Test
Candidates are required to complete a technical assessment as part of the recruitment process.

Details regarding timing and location will be communicated to registered applicants.
Candidate Expectations
Successful candidates typically demonstrate:
- A strong interest in investing and commitment to professional development
- The ability to manage competing priorities, deadlines, and multiple projects
- Technical aptitude or experience in financial concepts and related tools
- A minimum GPA of 3.6
IMA Bootcamps
The IMA Bootcamp introduces students to the core skills required for success in the program, including equity research, financial modeling, and effective presentation techniques. The Bootcamp also serves as preparation for the technical assessment and interview process.
Applicants are only required to attend one Bootcamp session, as all sessions cover the same material. Bootcamps are held in the Margolis Market Information Lab.
Specific dates and session times will be announced each recruitment cycle.

Director Interviews
Applicants who advance will participate in two rounds of invite-only interviews:
- First Round Interviews: Business professional attire required
- Second Round Interviews: Business professional attire required
Interview timelines, locations, and additional details will be provided to selected candidates. Final decisions and offers are communicated following completion of the interview process.
